Romeo Buen has been with the cartooning industry
since early '80s. In 1987, he joined the Samahang
Kartunista ng Pilipinas (SKP) and since then, he was an active member by participating in various competitions conducted by the group.
As an artist, his career started as early as 1984
when he was hired by the JINGLE Magazine
-- the premiere music magazine at that time -- as cartoonist, joining
famous names like Noli Vilar(+), DengCoy Miel, Roxlee, Ludwig Ilio, Dante Perez(+), Benjie Lontoc, Jr., etc.
Getting a taste of television work in 1987,
Romy, as he is known to friends, got the chance to work with Jaime
Fabregas, Ces Quesada and Director Marilou Diaz-Abaya, as he joined the
comedy satire Sic O'Clock News in Channel
13 as graphic artist. He stayed there until 1990. He also had a brief stint in Channel 5's Pinoy Eh! in 1991.
Romy’s cartoons have appeared in several
exhibitions, one of which was during the World AIDS Day and was adjudged third
place for the People’s Choice Award. Just recently, he coveted the Grand Prize
Award for Editorial Cartoon in the First Boytogs Editorial Cartoon at the
National Press Club.
Romy is also privileged to be included in the book
Trip to Quiapo by highly-respected
scriptwriter Ricky Lee, together with other various artists.
He is currently the sole editorial cartoonist for Abante and Abante Tonite.
